SOUTH COTABATO, Philippines - An ethnic T’boli peasant was killed Sunday when his restive dog, spooked by visitors, jumped on a loaded shotgun on a table, setting a shell off while its muzzle was pointed to the victim.
Relatives immediately rushed Danih Afwan Safi, 45, to a municipal dispensary at the town proper of Lake Sebu, a hinterland South Cotabato town, where he eventually succumbed to pellet wounds in the lower torso.
Investigators said the incident happened while Safi was attending to visiting relatives at his farmhouse in Barangay Lam Fugon in Lake Sebu.
The presence of Safi’s guests scared his dog, causing the freak gun discharge.
Barangay officials promised to help facilitate the burial of Safi.
