AWOL soldier killed, 11 nabbed in Zamboanga drugs bust

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A soldier, suspected of drug pushing, was killed while 11 other people were arrested during a drugs bust in Barangay Sta. Maria on Monday.

Superintendent Diomario Albarico, commander of police station 7 at Barangay Sta. Maria, said one of those arrested is a former village councilman.

Albarico said slain suspect Sakir Bakkil was an "AWOL" member of the military.

He said Bakkil and his companions fired at the approaching lawmen during the raid at around 11:30 a.m.

Bakkil died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Several packets of shabu, two .45 caliber pistols, a .22 caliber rifle, a .38 revolver and an M1 grenade were seized during the raid. - Roel Pareño
