Son electrocutes mother after refusing to give him money for liquor

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Policemen arrested on Monday a man who electrocuted her mother to death for ignoring a demand of P200 for liquor he wanted to buy for a drinking session with neighbors.

The suspect, Jobert Sinoy, is now at the detention facility of the Midsayap municipal police.

Superintendent Reynaldo Delos Santos, Midayap’s police chief, said Sinoy did not resist arrest when policemen arrived at their house in Barangay Central Bulanan in west of the municipality a day after he killed her mother, Susan, 49.

Delos Santos said an angry Sinoy, ranting over his mother’s refusal to give him money, connected a duplex electrical cord, plugged to a convenient outlet, to the metal clothesline where the victim was to hang wet clothes.

Relatives and neighbors said the jobless 24-year-old Sinoy, an alcoholic, is also dependent on illegal drugs.

Sinoy’s mother got electrocuted and died while being rushed to a hospital by neighbors after she unsuspectingly touched the electrified clothesline while trying to hang wet, newly washed clothes.

“He was so angry with his mother and so he thought of killing her that way,” Delos Santos said.

Delos Santos said investigators will file criminal charges against the suspect on Tuesday.
