Tuguegarao pushes CCTV ordinance

Charlie Lagasca - The Philippine Star

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – An ordinance is being pushed in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan requiring commercial establishments and villages to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

City councilor Ronald Ortiz said the ordinance is being readied for filing before the city council. When approved, all the city’s barangays and business establishments have to install CCTV systems to help prevent and solve crimes.

Ortiz said the CCTV installation would be one of the requirements in applying for or renewing business permits.

He said the ordinance aims to strengthen public safety and order following a recent series of killings and other crimes, including the murder of Gyorgy Tong, the chief of staff of Cagayan Rep. Randolph Ting Thursday.
