BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The city government on Wednesday opened the 35th MassKara Festival, which will run until Oct. 19.
“This year’s MassKara is one of the best since we have the cooperation of everybody,” said Mayor Monico Puentevella, who led the opening ceremony at the city’s public plaza.
The 19-day festival, organized by the Kasadya Bacolod Foundation Inc., started with a “Fun MassKa-Run, Jog, Walk, Bike and Skate” activity, which took off from four different starting points at 5:30 a.m. This was followed by the ZumbassKara. The Gawad Kalinga Volunterism Week also started Wednesday.
The city police said at least 600 policemen would be deployed to secure the festival.
Among the highlights for this year’s event include the coronation of the MassKara Queen on Oct. 10 and the opening of the MassKara by the Sea on Oct. 12.
