4 P’sinan students hurt in ‘hazing’

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines – The municipal police here is investigating allegations that a sorority initiation rite left four high school girls bruised and battered.

The girls, students of Parayao National High School, told school officials about their ordeal and showed them the bruises on their legs.

One of the girls said she and her companions went to a house in Barangay Naguilayan, expecting to meet new friends. She said they were blindfolded as soon as they arrived.

The victims said their “masters” used a wooden paddle to hit them. They were allegedly threatened with physical harm should they report the hazing.

Town police chief Inspector Apollo Calimlim said the girls’ parents reported the incident to the police.

Benedict Fernandez, school guidance counselor, said they prohibit their students from joining organizations that require new members to undergo hazing.
