TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A driver died while seven others were injured when his truck collided with a passenger bus in Pugo town, La Union Monday.

Algerito Mainit of Magalang, Pampanga died while being treated at the Baguio City General Hospital, said case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Louie Picazo.

Reports said Mainit's truck (CWP-644) developed engine trouble as he was driving along Marcos Highway in Barangay Palina.

Picazo said the brakes malfunctioned, causing the truck to collide with a Victory Liner bus driven by Roberto Alvarez.

The bus (AYK-525) was on its way to Baguio City when the accident occurred.

Truck helpers Jason Madersi and Mark Joseph Valbueza survived after they jumped off the truck.

Among those injured were Alvarez, bus conductor Mamerto Trinidad, inspector Erwin Frakin and passengers Kerirose Quipino, Kenith Madrillo and Noel and Edgar Buan.
