Negros cop’s son tops medtech board exam

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A policeman’s son, who graduated from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in this city, topped this year’s medical technology licensure examination conducted by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Sept. 13 and 14.

The PRC released the results Wednesday night. The examination was given in Manila, Baguio, Cebu and Davao.

Patrick Joseph Mabugat garnered a score of 90.90 percent, the highest among 2,986 passers out of the 3,615 examinees.

He is one of the four children of Superintendent Calixto Mabugat, former police chief of Kabankalan City and now assigned at the Police Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City, and his wife Arlene Amunategui.

The elder Mabugat said his son plans to take up medicine.

In an interview on Bombo Radyo, John Patrick attributed his success to hard work, inspiration from his girlfriend and motivation from his parents.

He said he studied and prayed hard before the board examination, but did not expect he would be the topnotcher.

“My cellular phone’s battery was drained and I could not ask my classmates how true the report was. When I finally confirmed it, I was very happy and thankful to God, my parents, my girlfriend and other people who helped me,” he said.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said Mabugat will get a cash incentive from the city government.

The other topnotchers are Yzabel Battad and Gabrielle Paul Pascual, both of Saint Louis University, with a score of 90.70; Genessa Buenafe of University of San Agustin, (90.40); Christian Bryll Ferreras of Centro Escolar University-Manila, (90.10); Sherwin Casimiro of Manila Central University-Caloocan City and  Kym Yves  Sirilan of Silliman University, (89.90); Jemuel Guasa of Silliman University and European Henley Sanchez of Velez College, (89.60); Jannie Leah Miedes of San Pedro College-Davao City, (89.40);  Jason Bansuela of Silliman University and Hanna Clementine Tan of University of Santo Tomas, (89.30); Alicia Rose  Autentico of Central Philippine University, Lovely Gay Pascual of San Pedro College-Davao City,  Chino Paolo Samson of University of Pangasinan, and Antonio Vincoy Jr. of Silliman University, (89.20);  and Maria Cecilia Lomboy of  San Pedro College-Davao City, Loren Lopez of  Angeles University Foundation, and Sonali Prakash Mahtani of Cebu Doctors’ University, (89.10).
