Mikey eyeing congressional seat in Negros?

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Is the son of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo running for congressman in the fifth district of Negros Occidental?

Alain Gatuslao, Negros Occidental fifth district board member, confirmed on Tuesday that aides of former Ang Galing Pinoy party-list representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo have been recruiting supporters, especially among barangay captains in their district.

The district’s former congressman, the late Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo, was Mikey’s uncle.

“There are people identified with Arroyo roaming around the district. Before, we only heard it from some people but now it’s confirmed that they have been talking to the barangay captains,” Gatuslao said.

Gatuslao said he would support Rep. Alejandro Mirasol, who won in a special election after Iggy’s death, if Mikey runs for congressman.

Both Gatuslao and Mirasol belong to the Liberal Party.
