ILIGAN CITY, Philippines – A police officer serving as a bodyguard of this city’s mayor is wanted in connection with the killing of a radio broadcaster last year.
Police Officer 1 Peejay Capangpangan, a security aide of Mayor Celso Regencia, has gone absent without leave after Iligan Judge Concordio Baguio issued a warrant for his arrest last Tuesday.
Capangpangan was tagged as the gunman in the murder of radio broadcaster Fernando Solijon in August last year. Solijon, a known critic of Regencia, was shot several times in Barangay Buruun in this city.
City police chief Superintendent Gervacio Balmaceda said last Wednesday that he had yet to receive a copy of the warrant, but added that they have launched a manhunt for Capangpangan.
Regencia has yet to comment on the matter.
The city police and the National Bureau of Investigation are urging Capangpangan to surrender.
