MANILA, Philippines - Rains will continue to affect most parts of the country this weekend due to two low-pressure areas (LPAs), one of which is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m. yesterday, the LPA was at 580 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA will name the disturbance “Karding” once it develops into a cyclone.
Weather forecasters said the LPA over Virac has a high chance of intensifying into a cyclone as it remains over the sea.
Meanwhile, the other LPA was located at 50 km southeast of Dagupan City, Pangasinan as of 10 a.m. yesterday.
“These weather systems will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in Luzon, Visayas and Zamboanga peninsula in the next few days,” PAGASA said.
The LPA off Dagupan was forecast to weaken within the next 24 hours after crossing Northern Luzon, the agency said.
