DepEd chief seeks probe of P’sinan school shooting
LINGAYEN, Philippines – Education Secretary Armin Luistro is seeking a deeper probe into a shooting incident on a Pangasinan high school campus that left four persons killed and three others wounded last Tuesday.
Luistro visited the Pangasinan National High School (PNHS) yesterday to pay his last respects to the three teachers killed, allegedly by a police officer. He also visited the three wounded victims in the hospital.
The DepEd chief said they would ask the help of the departments of justice and the interior and local government, as the suspect is a law enforcer.
He said DepEd’s immediate concern is the safety of teachers and students when classes resume.
“No matter how you look at the incident, granting there was unpaid loans (by the teachers), the solution there is not killing. That act has no place in schools where students saw the killing,” Luistro said.
He said a deeper investigation should be conducted, as reports indicate that teachers in other schools are also indebted to the police officer.
He said he had asked school officials to tighten security to avoid a repeat of the incident.
