Couple slain in ambush

COTABATO CITY, Philippines  – An education official and her husband were killed in an attack by unidentified assailants in Pikit, North Cotabato on Sunday.

Violeta Almazan, 62, school district supervisor in Midsayap, and her husband Gervacio, 63, died from several gunshot wounds, said Pikit town police chief Inspector Mautin Pangandingan.

Pangandingan said the Almazans were on their way to Midsayap’s town proper when motorcycle-riding gunmen waylaid them in Barangay Dalengawen.

Pangandingan said investigators have yet to identify the assailants and determine the motive for the attack.
