Davao police chief sacked over wife-beating issue

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines   – The chief of police of this city was relieved from his post yesterday over a viral video showing him quarreling with a woman said to be his wife.

The relief of Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. was aimed to pave the way for an investigation of a case filed by his wife for alleged violation of Violence Against Women and Children Act.

Southern Mindanao regional police director Chief Superintendent Wendy Rosario told The STAR that Danao would be replaced by his deputy Superintendent Marvin Pepino.

Rosario said the Police Regional Office 10 would create a separate fact-finding team to probe Danao.

Danao said he is willing to face any investigation adding the incident was a private matter between him and his wife.

Women’s group Gabriela had earlier sought an investigation of the incident.
