NCRPO now using geolocation vs crimes in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) has started the ‘geolocation’ of its anti-crime intervention measures in all identified crime-prone areas in Metro Manila.
Geolocation is ‘the process or technique of identifying the geographical location of a person or device by means of digital information processed via the Internet.'
Over the last nine weeks, Roxas said the program has tapped 89 personnel from the PNP national headquarters; 98 from the NCR regional public safety battalion; 908 from police recruits; and 55 personnel from other PNP regional headquarters, or a total of 1,150 personnel, to be deployed in certain areas where there is a reported prevalence of crime incidents.
“Our anti-crime drive will be information based on crime data/statistics and we will make the appropriate intervention measures accordingly. Director Carmelo Valmoria is under orders to deploy or re-deploy the augmentation troops wherever they are necessary,” Roxas said.
Roxas announced that since June 16 to August 10 this year, an average of 223 criminals had been arrested, majority of them with outstanding arrest warrants.
In the past week, he said the PNP arrested 347 wanted criminals while 439 other fugitives were rounded up this week. He added that cases of thefts, robberies, homicides and murders went down in the past two weeks, with 757 cases recorded from August 11 to 17, and 692 from August 18 to 24.
