School supervisor, husband killed in ambush

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Gunmen on Sunday killed in an ambush a municipal education official and her husband in Pikit, North Cotabato.

Insp. Mautin Pangandingan, chief of the Pikit municipal police, said the fatalities, 62-year-old Violeta Almazan, supervisor of government schools in Midsayap town in North Cotabato, and her husband, Gervacio, 63, both died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Pangandingan said the victims were on their way to Midsayap from Arakan, North Cotabato riding a motorcycle together when their attackers flagged them at a secluded stretch of a national highway in Barangay Dalengawen and shot them with handguns.

Pangandingan said the suspects fled riding in motorcycles. He added that investigators still have no clue on the identities of the culprits and their motive for the attack.
