Flashfloods hit Sultan Kudarat town

John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines -  Flashfloods spawned by heavy rains a day before hit a dozen riverside villages in nearby Sultan Kudarat town Tuesday.

Floodwaters also destroyed a bridge in Buldon town in the first district of Maguindanao, from where springs the large Ambal River, which drains at the Rio Grande de Mindanao through rivers in low-lying areas in Sultan Kudarat.

The Humanitarian Emergency Assistance and Relief Team (HEART) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on Tuesday dispatched workers to assess the needs of the villagers and  the damage the flashfloods caused.

Heavy rains also caused swamps at the border of Maguindanao and Cotabato City to rise to alarming levels.
