200 'poisoned' in village feeding program

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — About 200 residents of a village in Medina, Misamis Oriental suffered from what seemed to be food poisoning after participating in a barangay feeding program.

In a radio report Tuesday, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeney Vicente "Bambi" Emano said  that he ordered an investigation following the incident in Barangay San Vicente, when barangay health workers offered free food to residents for lunch last week.

Relieved that no one died from the poisoning, Emano assured affected residents that the local government will shoulder medical expenses under the Misamis Oriental care program.

Emano said that the food, suspected to contain contaminated beef, was given away during activities celebrating the village's anniversary.
