JBC lists 5 names for Visayas deputy ombudsman post

MANILA, Philippines — The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Monday listed five nominees for the position of deputy ombudsman for the Visayas.

The five officials from various government agencies were included in the list through voting by members of the JBC.

In the shortlist are Register of Deeds acting director Paul Elmer Clemente, Presidential Commission on Good Government Commissioner Vicente Gengos Jr. and Commission on Audit chief executive staff Gilbert Kintanar, earning four votes each.

Judge Geraldine Faith Econg of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court and acting director Carla Juris Narvios Tanco of the Ombudsman for Visayas Public Assistance and Corruption Office, meanwhile, have two votes each.

President Aquino will select from the shortlisted names to replace Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio Apostol, who will soon reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 on Aug. 20. - Camille Diola
