Doctors probed for fake medicine

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines– Seven doctors from Baguio City and Benguet province are being investigated for allegedly buying fake medicine from an illegal distributor.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Cordilleras refused to name the doctors, who allegedly acquired the medicine from Erlinda Miguel, 57.

Miguel was arrested in an entrapment operation by PDEA agents and members of the Baguio City police at her house in Quezon Hill here the other day. The raid was supervised by personnel of the Food and Drug Administration.

Seized from the suspect were at least P1.2 million worth of fake Valium, Diazepam and Nuvain ampules.

PDEA-Cordillera assistant regional director Gil Castro said they also seized from Miguel receipts indicating the names of seven doctors to whom she allegedly sold the drugs.
