4 carjackers nabbed by cops after EDSA chase
MANILA, Philippines - Four suspected carjackers were arrested by the Makati Police on Tuesday night following a car chase along EDSA that ended in Pasay City.
Sr. Supt. Manuel Lukban, Makati Police chief, said they initially received a report about armed men who snatched a Suzuki Raider motorcycle on Vito Cruz Street.
Lukban said they the recieved a report that the stolen motorcycle was spotted in Evangelista Street in Barangay Bangkal near the boundary with Pasay City with two men riding it.
Lukban then ordered the dispatch of a police patrol car to check.
At about 11 p.m., the patrol car caught up with the motorcycle in Apolonario St. in Barangay Bangkal.
Police said one suspect was aboard the motorcycle and was joined by four other suspects aboard a red Mitsubishi Lancer (TYL-413).
Surprised, the suspects then sped off on their car and the motorcycle, triggering a chase with the police patrol car that took them to EDSA.
Lukban said he immediately contacted the Pasay police for assistance in intercepting the suspects.
Lukban said the pursuing police officers caught up with the suspects when they ran into traffic at the intersection of Macapagal Boulevard and Gil Puyat (Buendia) extension and shot out the tires of the car.
Lukban said two caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .40 pistol and two bladed weapons were recovered from suspects Nelson Castillo, Brian Legitimas, Victorio Nuas, and Roberto Gozon.
The fifth suspect, who was riding a motorcycle however escaped. The stolen Suzuki Raider motorcycle was abandoned by the suspect.
Lukban said the arrested suspects were previously tagged and identified as the same persons involved in a series of carnapping and robbery incidents in Makati using the red Mitsubishi Lancer as their get away vehicle.
