MMDA to allow container truck routes

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Tuesday said that it will not apprehend trucks and container vans traversing along the truck routes designated by the Metro Manila Council last June to decongest the ports.

This came on the heels of a resolution passed unanimously Tuesday by the Metro Manila mayors defying the ‘no apprehension policy’ issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) which allowed for-hire trucks with green plates to ply Metro roads outside the MMDA’s truck ban hours until August 29.

MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos said agency’s traffic constables were instructed to refrain from apprehending container trucks everyday except Friday, but only on truck routes specified in the MMC resolution.

The designated truck routes are as follows:

·         South Truck Route
From Port Area to SLEX – Bonifacion Drive, Left P. Burgos, Finance Road, Ayala Boulevard, right San Marcelino, left UN Avenue, right Plaza Dilao, right Pres. Quirino Extension, left Osmeña Highway

From NLEX to Port Area
Balintawak to A Bonifacio, turn right to C-3, left to R-10 to Destination

·         Roxas Boulevard Truck Route
From Port Area to Cavitex (Southbound only)
From Pier take R-10 straight ahead Roxas Boulevard to Cavitex

“The purpose of these truck routes is to help address the port congestion problem in Manila.  The MMDA will continue to respect these,” Carlos said.

MMC, composed of local chief executives of Metro Manila, is the policy-making body of the MMDA.
