University driver dead in road rage incident
ALBUERA, Leyte, Philippines – In an apparent case of road rage, a driver of the Visayas State University (VSU) was shot dead here on Tuesday by two men who got reportedly enraged when the school’s minibus overtook them along the highway.
The assailants, who were on a black Nissan Navarra with no license plate, chased the bus and stopped it in Barangay Cambalading here.
They then boarded it, poked their guns at the driver, Restituto Soria Jr., 55, berating him for overtaking them, and then shot him.
Senior Inspector Martin Padenas, Albuera police chief, said passengers of the minibus, who reportedly included VSU students, said the minibus overtook the Nissan Navarra somewhere in Barangay Caridad, Baybay, leading to the chase and killing.
The witnesses said the assailants asked Soria why he overtook them, but he insisted that they, not him, made the move first.
