Vice mayor’s kin nabbed for illegal drugs
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines – A nephew of Bauang Vice Mayor Bonifacio Malinao was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a drug bust in San Juan town yesterday.
Angelito Malinao, 37, was collared by anti-narcotics agents after he allegedly sold shabu to an undercover agent, said Superintendent Julius Suriben, city police chief.
Seized from the suspect were three plastic sachets containing shabu, two P500 bills, a cellular phone, a lighter, five pieces of rolled aluminum foil, a black bag, and a motorcycle with no license plate.
Reports said the suspect allegedly supplied shabu in the towns of Bauang, Naguilian, Caba, San Juan, San Gabriel, and this city.
In a radio interview, Malinao said he was upset by the arrest of his nephew even as he gave assurance that he would not interfere in the case.
