Fire guts plastics factory

Dino Balabo - The Philippine Star

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – A fire gutted a plastics factory in Meycauayan City, Bulacan late Monday night, destroying P120 million worth of properties and equipment.

No one was reported injured in the fire, which reached a general alarm, drawing firefighters from other places in Bulacan and Metro Manila.

Probers of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) were still determining the cause of the fire that struck the Zooey plastics factory at Muralla Industrial Subdivision in Barangay Iba, Meycauayan. Residents said they heard an explosion prior to the fire.

While the fire has been placed under control, the BFP said it might take some time to fully extinguish it due to the plastic materials in the factory.

The incident left some 250 workers jobless.
