MMDA readies personnel in metro's flood-prone areas
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday readied 149 personnel for deployment to 22 flood-prone areas of Metro Manila that may be affected by heavy rains to be dumped by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) that is being enhanced by typhoon Henry.
The MMDA earlier identified the 22 flood-prone areas as: España-Antipolo-Maceda in Manila; P. Burgos-Manila City Hall vicinity; Osmeña-Skyway northbound in Makati City; EDSA-North Avenue, Quezon City; Don Bosco, Makati City; Buendia-South Superhighway southbound in Makati City; Buendia-South Superhighway northbound; C-5-Bagong Ilog; West Service Road and Merville in Parañaque City; and Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati City.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) typhoon Henry is enhancing the southwest monsoon that is expected to bring heavy rain over Luzon including Metro Manila.
According to PAGASA, rain over Metro Manila is expected to be felt until Thursday. The MMDA personnel will be supported by flood-control equipment to be deployed by the MMDA.
Earlier, Tolentino also urged barangays in the 22 flood prone areas of the Metro to practice sandbagging as a counter-flood measure. Tolentino said affected barangays should place at least 10 sandbags per house.
