Rampaging water buffalo killed

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A water buffalo being brought to the city’s slaughterhouse went berserk last week, damaging two motorcycles and a makeshift roadside eatery, authorities said.

City veterinarian Robert Malcontento said the animal was likely made distraught by the noise of vehicles.

Senior Superintendent Rolen Balquin, Cotabato City police chief, said policemen were forced to fatally shoot the animal with assault rifles as it was about to attack pedestrians.

Balquin said the animal’s owner volunteered to pay for the repair of the damaged motorcycles and eatery.
