Negros Occ. revives price councils

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. has urged all local government units (LGUs) in the province to activate their respective price coordinating councils to assess the supply and prices of goods in their jurisdictions.

Marañon said the local price coordinating councils should also identify and undertake measures to ensure that the supply and prices of basic commodities are stable.

Marañon asked the LGUs to submit price monitoring reports to his office. The Department of Trade and Industry has furnished cities and municipalities with a price list for their reference.

Marañon, meanwhile, lamented the refusal of the National Food Authority (NFA) to sell rice to the province. “We requested to purchase rice from the NFA but they refused,” he said.
