Glenda spares Marinduque hospitals

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Operations remain normal in all hospitals and health facilities in Marinduque, which were spared by Typhoon Glenda that pummeled Luzon recently, the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.

DOH regional director Eduardo Janairo said they inspected the health facilities in the province, particularly the Dr. Damian Reyes Provincial Hospital in Boac, the Sta. Cruz District Hospital in Sta. Cruz and Turijos Municipal Hospital, to assess the damage left by the typhoon.

“All health facilities in the province are fully functional and were not affected by the typhoon. All are ready to accept any eventual casualties,” Janairo said.

He said a Code Blue alert was raised in the province in preparation for Glenda. Under the code, medical personnel in all government hospitals are required to be on a 24-hour duty for the possible influx of casualties. Sufficient medicine and medical supplies in hospitals are also required under Code Blue.

“The DOH-Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional health offices started operation 24 hours a day since July 15 and has been working with provincial health facilities and partner agencies regarding disaster preparedness, providing health assistance and reporting health incidents in the province” Janairo said.
