MMDA deploys 700 personnel for post-Glenda cleanup

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday deployed 700 personnel to clear debris left on Metro Manila streets and roads by typhoon Glenda.

MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said the clearing crew came from the agency’s Metro Parkway Group and were initially deployed Thursday morning at Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Avenue and in San Juan City.

Tolentino said the clearing teams were able to collect over six truckloads of trash and debris from Commonwealth Avenue alone.

Tolentino said the MMDA clearing operation is in support of the clearing operation being done by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Tolentino said trees felled by Glenda’s winds were collected by the MMDA teams and were brought for storage at the MMDA's warehouse in Pasig City.

Tolentino said the MMDA will be handing the trees to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) which will then convert them into school chairs and desks.
