MANILA, Philippines — Powerful winds spawned by Typhoon "Glenda" ripped the facade of popular shopping malls, Glorietta 5 in Makati City and SM Aura Premier in Taguig City, on Wednesday.
The weather event spared the cities from being directly battered but caused damage to the malls' side exterior, with glass panels and cement boards blown off by the typhoon's strong winds of up to 180 kilometer per hour.
Glorietta 5 and the newly-constructed SM Aura remained open to the public on Wednesday.
Several trees and fences in the Makati Business District and at the Bonifacio Global City were toppled by the typhoon.
Work in most offices were suspended as weather bureau PAGASA placed Metro Manila under storm warning signal number 3.
