MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - Flashfloods spawned by heavy rains hit four barangays in North Upi town Tuesday, forcing hundreds of villagers to evacuate.
The evacuees are now staying in the municipal gymnasium at the center of North Upi, located in the first district of Maguindanao.
The North Upi municipal disaster risk reduction and management council said the flashfloods that hit parts of Barangay Nuro, Borongotan, Nangi, and Blensong also ravaged rice and corn crops in nearby farms.
North Upi Mayor Ramon Piang lauded he is thankful his constituent-barangay officials, the police and the military for helping evacuate villagers in flooded areas to relief sites.
