LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – Alaminos City and the towns of Alcala, Burgos, Basista and Sual were cited for their implementation of the public health program during the second Pangasinan Provincial Health Summit Local Chief Executives Dialogue on TB Control recently.
Burgos, Alcala and Basista were the top three awardees while Alaminos City and Sual town received special recognition.
In the Inter-Local Health Zone, the Western Pangasinan District was the top awardee, while the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital was named as the Most Improved ILHZ.
Prior to the awarding rites, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and League of Provinces of the Philippines president Alfonso Umali Jr. signed a pledge of commitment to the provinces’s tuberculosis (TB) control program and other health programs.
Umali, Oriental Mindoro governor, cited Espino’s leadership and expressed confidence that Pangasinan would be a TB-free province in the future, considering the present administration’s efforts.
Espino noted that TB used to rank fourth among the top 10 leading causes of death among Pangasinenses when he became governor in 2007, but is now the ninth leading killer disease.
