Suspected lady NPA member nabbed after clash in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Government troops captured a suspected female member of the New People’s Army (NPA) following an encounter in a remote village of Siayan town, Zamboanga del Norte on Monday.

Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, information officer of the Police Regional Office 9, identified the suspect as Marcy Maghinay alias Joyce, the alleged secretary of Front Feliciano B of Western Mindanao Revolutionary Party Committee (WMRPC) of the NPA.

Samuddin said elements of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Battalion and elements of the Siayan police station were conducting a combat patrol when they encountered an undetermined number of NPA rebels in Sitio Guigang, Barangay Guibo, around noon.

He said the rebels were outgunned by the military and police personnel, forcing them to retreat.

Pursuing soldiers captured Maghinay and recovered from her a .45 pistol, a shotgun and one hand grenade.

The suspect was temporarily detained at the Siayan Police Station.
