BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The mayor of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental has asked the Mines and Geosciences Bureau to look into a sinkhole after five residents fell into it and lost consciousness last June 26.

The sinkhole, which residents have cordoned off, is three meters deep and has a diameter of 3.5 meters.

According to Mayor Isidro Zayco, the five residents were strolling at the basketball court in the plaza in Barangay Oringao when they fell into the sinkhole.

Rescuers managed to extricate out of the sinkhole the five who had become unconscious because of the fall and the gaseous smell in the pit.
