Central Visayas gets TESDA scholarships

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) director general Secretary Joel Villanueva recently embarked on a three-province swing in central Visayas to hand out scholarship vouchers to allow the youth to avail themselves of the agency’s free training.

The bulk of the scholarships worth P40.5 million went to 16 towns in northern Cebu that were affected by Typhoon Yolanda last year. The mayors and their constituents accepted the scholarship grants.

Villanueva also signed a memorandum of agreement with the Cebu Contractors Association for training, assessment and certification programs.

In Siquijor province, Villanueva led the distribution of certificates of training to TESDA graduates, and visited the Lazi Technical Institute, a school supervised by the agency.

In Dumaguete City, he awarded P1 million worth of scholarships to the Negros Oriental provincial government led by Gov. Roel Degamo.

He also inducted the newly elected officers of the Negros Oriental Association of Training Institutions and gave scholarship coupons to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas.

Meanwhile, the Dumaguete City government donated a 500-square meter lot as site for the TESDA provincial office.
