MANILA, Philippines - Heavy rains triggered flashfloods, damaging crops in five towns of Maguindanao over the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
In a report, the NDRRMC said the floods inundated the municipalities of Mamasapano, Shariff Saydona, Datu Piang, Mother Kabuntalan and Datu Salibo Friday night.
"Flood water in some areas immediately subsided, no casualties and evacuation of residents were reported but damage to agricultural crops were noted," the report read.
Officials are still assessing the amount of crops damaged by the floods.
The NDRRMC said residents along the riverbanks in Datu Piang and Mother Kabuntalan were warned on the rise of water along Rio Grande de Maguindao since last week.
Local disaster management units are continuously monitoring the situation in the affected areas.
NDRRMC said the Social Welfare department in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has food packs that are ready for distribution if needed. –with reports from Anna Bajo and Venice Amoroso
