MANILA, Philippines - Security forces on Monday arrested a suspected member of the terror group, Abu Sayyaff, during an operation in Basilan province, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said.
CIDG Director Benjamin Magalong said that Abu member Moraham Ameng was nabbed in Brgy. Bulan-bulan, Lantawan, Basilan by police and military personnel who served an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Danilo Bucoy of Branch 2.
Ameng's warrant of arrest is for Kidnapping and Illegal Detention charges, Magalong said.
Magalong said Ameng was involved in the kidnapping of a doctor and his family in 1992 and abduction of 16 teachers in 1994.
The ASG member was also a suspect in the ambush of coconut plantation employees where three were killed and seven others were wounded in Barangay Tairan, Sitio Pangasaan, Lantawan, Basilan.
Ameng, who also bolted a jail in Basilan, has a bounty of P600,000 for his capture.
