Village exec busted for drugs in Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines - Anti-narcotics agents arrested a barangay official during a drug buy bust in Eastern Samar, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said on Wednesday.

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the suspect as Nestor Cunanan, 49, barangay chairman and resident of Barangay 3, Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Belated reports showed that last June 2, elements of PDEA Regional Office 8 conducted a sting operation in Cunanan’s neighborhood in Barangay 3 that led to the arrest of the suspect.

Seized during the operation were one piece of plastic sachet containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, placed inside a transparent plastic cellophane and the P1,000 marked bill used as buy-bust money.

Cunanan will be facing charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

He is now under the custody of PDEA RO8.
