P400-M cocaine bricks burned in Davao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  â€“ Sixty-two bricks of high-grade cocaine, found in a delivery truck parked at the Sumifru Wharf in this city last March, were destroyed yesterday.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte led the incineration of the bricks, with a street value of at least P400 million, at the Holcim Cement Corp. factory in Barangay Tibungco.

Two more bricks remain missing despite calls from local officials for them to be turned over to the authorities.

Duterte earlier insisted that the cocaine be burned in this city. â€œI do not want those substances to leave the city. I want them destroyed here,” he said.

The cocaine bricks were placed under the custody of the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency office before they were burned yesterday.
