Safety inspection of public transport companies sought

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Abakada Rep. Jonathan de la Cruz yesterday called for an immediate and nationwide inspection of all transport companies to help ensure the safety of the riding public and prevent major accidents in preparation for the return to school of millions of students next week.

“Not just land but sea and air transport as well,” De la Cruz said.

De la Cruz called on the Department of Transportation and Communications, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and other government agencies involved in public transport to come out with what they have been doing to enhance the safety of commuters.

“The LTFRB should not wait for another major accident and the death of more innocent commuters before they inform the riding public of what land transport firm should they avoid riding or has been suspended from the streets and for what reason,” he said.

“The people should know how often does the LTFRB inspect public transport companies and what are their latest findings,” he added.
