DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A former aide of former Davao del Sur governor Douglas Cagas was gunned down while taking his breakfast at his eatery in Digos City, Davao del Sur yesterday morning, police said.
The killing of Mars Labajo came four days after broadcaster Samuel Oliverio was shot dead also in Digos City.
Labajo belonged to the local group of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association and was reported to have taken part in a number of shooting events in the region.
Superintendent Querubin Manalang, Digos City police chief, said Labajo, who was no longer in government service, was tending his Kin Eatery in front of the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital along Lapu-Lapu Street when he was attacked.
Labajo was reportedly eating his breakfast when still unidentified men shot him, killing him on the spot.
Seven spent .45-caliber shells were recovered at the crime scene, Manalang said.
