(UPDATE) 1 dead, 4 hurt as truck crashes into row of houses in Rizal

MANILA, Philippines - One person was killed and four others were injured after a 10-wheeler truck loaded with sand crashed into three houses in Rizal province, early Tuesday.

Police identified the fatality as Domingo Francisco, a resident of Tikling in Barangay Dolores in Taytay town.

Those injured were identified as John Lester Eustaquio, John Lennon Eustaquio, Eleanor Eustaquio and John Michael Eustaquio. They were rushed to the Taytay Doctors Hospital for emergency treatment.

Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Rizal police provincial director, said the victims were sleeping when the truck (ZRL-306) crashed into the row of houses in Tikling area at about 4:15 a.m.

Balba said the truck was ascending Ortigas Avenue Extension going to Antipolo City when the still unidentified driver lost control, causing the truck to slide backwards.

The truck then crashed backwards into the houses.

Balba said the still unidentified driver abandoned his truck and fled. Members of the Taytay Police are now tracking him down.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and multiple injuries are being readied against the driver.
