John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY , Philippines  â€“ Two motorcycle-riding men shot and wounded a Maguindanao provincial board member along a busy thoroughfare here yesterday.

The victim, Adnan Biruar, president of the Association of Barangay Captains in nearby Parang town, sustained bullet wounds in the arm and abdomen.

Senior Superintendent Rolen Balquin, Cotabato City police chief, said investigators were still clueless on the attack.

Relatives told journalists that Biruar, 44, was whiling away his time with neighbors along a busy street not far from his house when the gunmen pulled over and shot him with pistols and then fled.

Biruar is the chairman of Barangay Tagudtungan on Bongo Island, some four kilometers off Parang, a seaside town in the first district of Maguindanao.

He is now undergoing treatment at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center here.
