ZAMBOANGA CITY - Police and military security intelligence operative foiled another possible bombing in the city after recovering an improvised bomb kept by the Abu Sayyaf Group in an abandoned lot, a police official announced Saturday.
Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega, Spokesman of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), said the bomb was tracked down following the capture of Nujir Ahidji alias Abu Jomar, a suspected urban terror group member and bomb expert of the Abu Sayyaf a week ago in a village just outside the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) headquarters.
He said the bomb fashioned from two rounds of 60mm mortar projectiles were found in a vacant lot along Salum Drive in Barangay San Roque, on Thursday.
Ortega said the bomb was placed inside a plastic bag and wrapped with black and blue cellophane, concealed inside an improvised container.
The bomb was turned over to the custody of the city police's bomb squad.
City police chief, Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro, had said that they were tracking down between four and six bombs planted by the Abu Sayyaf Group in separate areas in the city.
