(UPDATE) Radio broadcaster shot dead in Digos City

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY – Two men riding a motorcycle shot dead a radio blocktimer on Friday morning in Digos City.

The victim, Sammy Oliverio, who worked for a local government unit that paid for his radio airtime, died on the spot.

Oliverio was riding his motorcycle with his wife from the public market in Digos City when one of the two suspects shot him repeatedly. The killing happened at around 7 a.m.

The Digos City police is still investigating the incident.

Friends and relatives of Oliverio had told police that he did not have known enemies and was not a hard-hitting radio commentator either.

A fellow radio blocktimer, Marlan Malnegro, was quoted in radio reports as saying that he is convinced “personal grudge” was the reason behind the killing.
