DTI puts 'correct' weighing scales in GenSan markets

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines - The office of the Department of Trade and Industry in Gen. Santos City placed correct public weighing scales in  public markets to  prevent cheating by unscrupulous vendors.

One of the weighing scales was displayed for public use at the Gen. Santos City main public market, while the other was placed  at the Barangay Lagao market in the northeast of the city.

The weighing scales, dubbed “Timbangan ng Bayan,” were installed by Engineer Arnel Sayco of the DTI’s office in Gen. Santos City, the city’s assistant administrator, Engineer Teodico Dumagan, and representatives of local market vendors’ associations.

Carlito Exclamado, a vendor at the Gen. Santos central public market, said the Timbangan ng Bayan project will prevent the practice of some vendors of manipulating the calibration of their weighing scales for bigger profits.

The office of the DTI in Gen. Santos City had announced it will immediately act on complaints of cheating against market vendors.
