DOLORES, Quezon, Philippines - – Four children were killed after they were trapped inside their burning nipa house in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Bulakin 1 in this town Friday night.

The victims were identified as Ella, eight; John Mark, six; Mark Leo, four; and Jasmine, one year and five months, all surnamed Rebenito.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Quezon police director, said the fire occurred at around 9 p.m. while the children were sleeping.

Initial investigation showed that the fire started from a lit candle left unattended by the eldest among the children, Juana, 13.

Juana tried to call for help but found all her siblings burned when she returned.

The parents of the victims were working at a San Pablo City market when the incident occurred.

Police are conducting further investigation.
