Detained Italian diplomat brought to hospital
LAGUNA, Philippines – An Italian diplomat detained at the Biñan City jail on charges of child trafficking was brought to the hospital yesterday after complaining of abdominal pain, authorities said.
Senior Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Laguna police director, said former Italian ambassador to Turkmekistan Daniel Bosio, 46, was escorted by six Biñan policemen to the hospital for medical checkup, at around 8 a.m. yesterday.
Sapitula said the Biñan City prosecutor’s office granted the request of Bosio’s legal counsel for the medical checkup.
“He is now at the hospital for various medical tests such as blood and urine examination, X-ray and other tests and he will escorted back by police to his jail after all the tests are completed,†he said.
Superintendent Noel Aliño, Biñan City police chief, said Bosio has been complaining of abdominal pain since two days ago, saying he has gall bladder stones and asking that he be brought to a hospital of his choice immediately.
Last April 30, the prosecutor’s office suspended Bosio’s preliminary hearing as an official of the Bantay Tuluyan Foundation requested that the case be transferred to the Department of Justice in Manila.
