QC mayor wants revamp of city police force

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Tuesday called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) for a revamp of the city's police force following the shooting spree along Commonwealth Avenue on Sunday.

In press conference at the city hall, Bautista said it is an opportune time for a leadership change the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

"I'm frustrated. I feel bad. It's time for changes for QCPD," Bautista said as he expressed dismay over the shooting spree in the city that left seven persons dead.

He also discounted the possibility of offering reward money for the arrest and identification of the the gunmen  riding in motorcycle  during the shooting spree.

"Ilan na ba may pabuya, may nahuli ba? These are humiliating incidents," Bautista said.

Bautista vented his frustrations regarding the latest crime wave, citing that the city government has extended assistance to the local police to maintain peace and order and secure his constituents.

"After extending allowances, gasoline etc. Still we have these wanton killings. Nakakahiya sa mga ASEAN visitors natin.

"(Quezon City is the) premier city of the Philippines...Palitan ang mga tao sa QCPD. Ilagay ang competent na tao. I leave it to the hierarchy of the PNP regarding the QCPD reshuffle. I expect a change at QCPD with respect to our director. They should do their job," the mayor said.
